A Vital North Vancouver

I’m running to help build the most vital city in Canada — one that works for you, listens to you, and helps you thrive. North Vancouver gave my family an extraordinary place to live. I want to make sure the next generation can say the same.

What If City Hall Measured Success Differently?

A vital city isn’t just well-run — it’s alive, and it actively works for you, listens to you, and helps you thrive. That calls for a City Hall that works as well as the people it serves. The Vital Cities Project looks at North Vancouver through six lenses: social, business, community, governance, infrastructure, and affordability. It’s a way of asking not just “does City Hall work?” but “can the people who live here actually thrive?”

“Vital cities measure success not by what governments build, but by what citizens achieve.”

The Most Important Council in Generations

The next four years land all at once. Consider the list of challenges below. Any one of them challenges would stand out as a full term’s work. But all of these await the next Council, and more. So, this is no time for a city to sleepwalk or rest on complacency. This is a time for energetic, creative and committed elected officials. The challenges:

  • a historic debt-servicing load

  • a new community plan that shapes the City for a generation or more

  • the next phase of the Great Street Project

  • parks and public spaces decision in a City with green canopy challenges

  • real and critically important economic choices like the future of the old ICBC block

  • and more…

My view of City Council’s central role: Government doesn't build great communities. People do. The job of City Hall is to help them succeed. So, a Vital City Helps People Succeed.

Helping Thousands of Residents Understand Their City

For four years I’ve been digging into North Vancouver — its finances, its plans, its future — and putting it in plain language. It’s all here, free. No ticket, no paywall. The North Shore with Jeremy Cato.

What you see today on Central Lonsdale may be a preview of its future. City Council has endorsed the Lonsdale Great Street Project — a long-term vision to transform the heart of North Vancouver. But what was actually approved? And does this plan reflect the reality of this city — today?

Can We Go Greener Without Making Traffic Worse? North Vancouver is planning for growth. The City's new Parks & Public Space Plan asks an important question: If we can't create many new parks, can streets do some of the work? More greenery. More gathering spaces. More public life. But there is another question that deserves equal attention: What happens to mobility in a city that already struggles with congestion?

E-Bikes, Scooters & Pedestrian Safety: A Growing North Shore Problem. This video examines a growing issue facing cities across Canada: fast-moving e-bikes and scooters sharing unmanaged space with pedestrians. This is not a war on bikes. And it is not an anti-car argument. It is a practical discussion about speed, enforcement, safety, and how cities adapt when technology changes faster than infrastructure and policy.

How I Decide

(How I’ll Judge Every Decision)

From cleaner sidewalks to smarter spending, I applythe GUIDE test before making a major decision. The five questions I ask: Is it Grounded? Is it Understandable? Is it Inclusive? Is it Doable? How will it be Evaluated? Good decisions should pass every one.
